So what’s the big deal about Blogging and Podcasting?

Blogging and Podcasting are a fundamental shift in corporate communication. Rather than sending out a Press Release written in third-person, companies are blogging in first-person. Also, since each item allows comments, the reader can ask questions to greater understand the information that is presented. This lends a greater degree of credibility, and sidesteps the marketing language rut that so many organizations find themselves in. Additionally, with billions of dollars spent every year by organizations who want to know what their customers think, blogging and podcasting provide a direct touch on the pulse of your current and future customer base.

First vs. Third Person?

That’s right; most blogs are written in First-Person. First-person allows the author to talk about specific experiences with a new product or service, and why the author views it as important. First-person also allows the blog or podcast to become an open conversation, giving the customer or end user a voice.

Your Voice

In addition to lending a voice to end users, blogs and podcast allow your organization to communicate on its own terms. Press releases which are picked up by the general media are often covered for a single news hour on TV, or a single news day in print. Additionally, there is no control over how those media outlets cover your organizations latest news. A major announcement that changes everything about your organization may only be covered by a 10 second spot.

A blog or podcast is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and allows you to address issues on your time. If your organization has a major story, you can commit the proper resources, and cover the story how you want.
